上海罗氏制药有限公司总经理周平山的上海情缘

　　Chow’s loving commitment to Shanghai and China as a whole won him great respect within his community. In September 2006, Chow received the Magnolia Award from Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng. Speaking of it, he remains humble.

　　周总对上海、乃至对整个中国所怀有的挚爱情怀嬴得了人们极大的尊重。2006年9月，上海市市长韩正亲手将白玉兰奖颁发给了周平山先生。谈到此次获奖，周总依然保持着谦逊。

　　Chow:First of all I must say that this award is not to me, it’s to the company. It’s the company Roche has, in the last 15 years, they showed their sincerity, their commitment to grow together with Pudong and with Shanghai Government. And I was just happened to be the person in charge of the company for that 4 or 5 years. I am just the same as anybody else and any colleagues in our company. It’s just we just play different roles in a company. I always treat myself as equal to even the A Yi who brings me the water in the morning.

　　首先，我要说的是，这个奖并不是属于我个人，而是属于整个公司。正是罗氏公司在过去的15年中，表明了自己的诚意、以及他们愿意与浦东和上海市政府共同成长的一种承诺。我只不过碰巧在那4~5年中负责管理公司而已。我和其他任何人，以及公司里的任何员工没有什么不同。只不过我们在公司里所担任的职务不同而已。我总是认为自己甚至与每天早晨为我送茶的阿姨都是平等的。

　　In China, specifically, you must love China from the bottom of your heart. Otherwise people will know that you are not sincere. Second is that you must treat your colleagues as equal from day 1. So that’s why I say I am only a small potato just like anybody else. But my role is just to create an environment or to do the best I can to get the reasonable resources to develop the business, to look after our people and my thinking is you have to be happy to do a good job. When you do a good job, you are even happier. So to me it’s a verses cycle.

　　特别是在中国，你一定要发自内心地热爱中国。否则别人就会看出你并不是真心诚意的。其次，你一定要从第一天起就与你的员工平等相待。所以我说，同其他任何人一样，我也只是一个普通人而已。只不过我的工作职责在于创造一种环境条件、或者尽我的最大努力，获取推进工作所需要的各种合理资源，同时照料好我们的员工。我认为，你一定要心情快乐才能够做好工作。而当你做好了工作，就会觉得更加快乐。因此对我来说，工作与快乐是相辅相成的。

　　Chen:But I know you are a big fan of James Bond. Does that mean a small potato actually is a hero in disguise?

　　据我所知，您可是一位铁杆邦德迷。这是否意味着像您这样一位“普通人”，实际上却是一位隐姓埋名的英雄?

　　Chow:No, no. I never consider myself as a hero. As I said once again, I always consider myself as equal to anybody else in the company. As I said that James Bond is very adventurous. But on the one hand, he is also very gentleman … that’s sort of a good British gentleman style. And when he faces crises, when he faces problems he still keeps calm. And…and at the same time, once he solved the problem, once he wins against the so-called enemies or defuse a global crises for certain things, then he relaxes. He also enjoys life. So I think that’s more or less what I am looking for in my life. That’s to be successful in my career, to be very happy with my family life.

　　不，不是的。我从不把自己当英雄。就像我之前再三强调过的，我认为自己与公司里的其他任何人一样平等。我曾说过，詹姆斯·邦德有着强烈的冒险精神。但是另一方面，他也很有绅士风度…属于那种正统英国绅士的风格。而当他面对危机、或面临困境之时，他仍能够保持镇静。并且… 同时，一旦他解决了问题、一旦他战胜了那些所谓的敌人，或者化解了某个全球性危机时，他就轻松了。另外，他还很热爱生活。所以我觉得，那种境界或多或少正是生活中我所努力探寻的。总结起来就是事业成功，家庭生活幸福吧。

　　Chow has now settled in Shanghai. A family man, he says he is lately to be celebrating his 30th wedding anniversary with his wife this year. Career-wise, Chow says further expansion plans for his company are already under the way. His commitment to the city will surely carry on.

　　周总现已定居上海。谈起家人，他说最近正在准备庆祝今年与他太太结婚30周年。而谈到工作，周总说公司的进一步扩建方案目前正在拟定中。显然，他同上海的不解之缘还将继续下去。

　　Chow:In 2 years’ time, 2010 Expo I am sure, with the dedication and commitment of the Shanghai Government, they can make things happen and I look forward, and I am sure I will be able to see that happen right in front of my eyes.

　　还有两年时间，上海就要举办2010年世博会了。我坚信，凭着上海市政府的竭诚努力与承诺，他们一定能够成功举办本届世博会;同时我也期待着并确信能够亲眼目睹这样的一次盛会。
