上海罗氏制药有限公司总经理周平山的上海情缘

　　Reporter:Back in 1994 Roche was the first foreign company to set up a joint-venture here in the Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park in Pudong. By now the pharmaceutical giant has completed its value chain in China, establishing one research center in 2004 and another development center in 2007.

　　早在1994年，罗氏公司就成为第一家在上海浦东张江高科技园区设立合资企业的外国公司。随着2004年研发中心以及2007年药品开发中心的相继落成，迄今为止，这家制药业巨头已在中国构建了完整的医药产业价值链。

　　The company’s top manager Antonio Chow was given a magnolia award in 2006 for his confidence in Shanghai’s economic growth as well as his commitment to the long-term investment in the city.

　　Today, he will talk to us his Shanghai story.

　　Antonio Chow was born in Hong Kong. Since graduating from the Pharmacy Department at the Rutgers State University of New Jersey in 1977, he has developed his career in the pharmaceutical industry. He started as a sales person, travelling across China’s mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan. That job eventually brought him to the city of Shanghai.

　　周平山先生出生于香港，1977年毕业于拉特格斯新泽西州立大学药学系，随后他一直在制药业开拓自己的职业生涯。他从一名销售人员做起，走遍中国大陆、香港及台湾地区。这份工作最终将他带到了上海。

　　Chen:Have you ever been to Shanghai before you took over the General Manager position in Roche in Shanghai?

　　在担任上海罗氏公司总经理之前，您是否曾来过上海?

　　Antonio Chow:Yes. I was in Shanghai in 1988 exactly 20 years ago. At that time I was the general manager for a French company. Shanghai is a very amazing city, and even 20 years ago there was a lot of glamour already. There was a lot of attraction. You could feel that this is the city. What really impressed me is that Shanghai is a very efficient city.

　　来过。1988年，正好是20年前，我就曾来过上海。当时，我是一家法国公司的总经理。上海是一个非常吸引人的城市，即使在20年前，她就有着很强的魅力，有很多吸引人的地方。当时我就感觉到，这正是我所向往的城市。真正给我留下深刻印象的是，上海这座城市的高效率。

　　Chen:How about the changes in these years? 您觉得这些年来上海都有哪些变化?

　　Chow:In fact in those 15 years I had been coming back to Shanghai almost every year, particularly the period of 1988 to year 2000, literally I came to Shanghai almost every 2 or 3 months. So it’s not that I see the changes in 15 years all of a sudden. I’ve seen the slow progresses changing from the finish of Nan Pu Daqiao the first time. And then up to now I don’t know how many bridges or tunnels now connecting between Puxi and Pudong.

　　事实上，有15年左右的时间，我差不多每年都要来上海，特别是在1988到2000年的那段时间，我几乎每隔2~3个月就要来上海一次。所以说，这15年来的变化并不是一瞬间的，我亲眼目睹了从南浦大桥首次建成通车以来上海逐步发展的进程。从那时一直到现在，我已经说不出究竟有多少座大桥和多少条隧道连接着浦西和浦东。

　　Chen:Back in the 1980s or even 1990s, what’s your knowledge about Pudong? Do you know what’s Pudong about?

　　追溯到上世纪80年代、或90年代，您当时对浦东有何了解?浦东对您来说是个什么样的概念?

　　Chow:Well, as I said I’ve told you when I came here I did not even know what Pudong was. Nobody talked about Pudong. And even in the ‘90s, as I said at the time when I was just coming back and forth, so I had no impression about Pudong. So now that, since ’94, then I knew that Pudong was… you know… a hi-tech park. Specifically, I think Roche was one of the early multi-national companies decided to come to Pudong. And then I started to get to know Pudong.

　　哦，就像刚才讲的，当时来到这里，我甚至都不知道浦东是个什么样的概念，也没有人提到浦东。甚至到了90年代，就是在我经常来回跑的那段时间，我对浦东也根本没有任何印象。后来，从1994年开始，我才听说，浦东有个高科技园区。值得一提的是，我认为罗氏是最早决定前来浦东落户的跨国公司之一;也就是从那时候起，我渐渐开始了解浦东。
